Are you limited on space? Well, we think this corner Christmas Tree is the ideal solution. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find free instructions on how to build it but if you’re good at making things from wood I think you could easily figure it out. Otherwise, this link will send you to a page where you can buy the instructions.
There’s a couple of cool things I noticed about this tree. The photo shows that hinges were used to connect one side of the tree to the other, which makes the perfect storage solution. Just fold it up and it will fit right under a bed or in a closet and then the shelves and base look as though they are individually removed for storage.
Again, not only does this tree make a beautiful display, it can pitch hit as your Christmas Tree!
It can be cumbersome to choose the latest Jewelry to buy. Sometimes we wait for a friend’s opinion or we ask for the opinions of the jewelry store attendant.
The main problem of choosing the right jewelry is that there are a lot of varieties, especially with the recurrently changing fashion trends. There are various attractive designs and styles of jewelry that looks perfect to us but we have one option. This will make the decision on the right fashion jewelry to choose more difficult especially in stores with a lot of options.
The following guidelines should be helpful in choosing the perfect latest fashion jewelry:
This should be among the first things to consider before going to a store to buy jewelry. You should know what you can afford, set a limit for the amount of money you can spend before you visit the store. From your budget, you should be able to know the type of store you can visit to get the jewelry.
If you have a high budget, it will be advisable to spend your money on genuine metals because of their longevity. On the other hand, if your budget is low you can visit stores that sell precious look-a-like metals for a fraction of the cost. Gold and silver plated jewelry is of lesser quality than real gold or silver but they offer you a lot of varieties since they are cheap.
It is very important to know exactly what your wants or needs are before you visit the jewelry store. If you don’t consider the style of the jewelry you need, you can get into a more difficult situation of selecting a particular style since there are tons of them on the market.
Check your jewelry box and determine the jewelry you need. When you get to a store be sure of the type of jewelry you can wear.
When you want to choose the latest fashion jewelry to buy, identify the kind of style you have and choose something similar to that style. Consider if the style of the jewelry will fit your wardrobe.
Keep up with the latest trends:
Consult different fashion magazines and websites or different stores to know the current fashion jewelry trends. Fashion magazines will be helpful in this aspect, as they provide information about different designs and style of jewelry that is coming to on the market very soon. Once you know the trends in jewelry, it will be easier for you to choose the jewelry you want without contemplating on which jewelry to pick.
You don’t want to choose a jewelry item that will hurt you no matter how long you wear them. It is important to choose comfortable jewelry and not any with sharp edges which can cut you or are heavy which can hurt you.
The categories of jewelry include necklace, earrings, bracelets, and rings. As always, jewelry from different categories can match each other. For example, some necklaces match earrings. Therefore, when you want to buy jewelry you must consider if it has a match in another category in order to avoid mixing jewelry that does not match each other.
Consequently, choosing the latest fashion jewelry can be difficult and the tips discussed above can be helpful in such situations.
While scrolling through my wall on Facebook, I couldn’t help but notice it was already inundated with Halloween decorations and we’re not even half way through August yet. Maybe they’re right and it is time to start thinking about the Fall Season and getting our decorations made now!
So, that’s what this post is all about. I took a few decorations from each place I found and hope you enjoy them.
I came across this video and just had to share. If you have kids you know how hard it is to haul everything down on the sand, and then to keep sand out of everything. Well this video will help to solve some of those issues!
There are so many directions I could go with that statement. One way would be to finish what I started last month with more home decor ideas. But instead, I found the posting below from 2009 on one of those Facebook Memories and thought…”well, here you go!” Funny thing is I don’t know what I meant by We’re Redefining Thrift Stores when I wrote this seven years ago! Maybe you can figure it out.
At Christmas, I was given a gift certificate for a massage at a local spa, which by the way, was definitely the perfect gift. A bottle of Sugar Scrub was included with the gift certificate, which I thought was nice at the time, but then I never gave it another thought. I had never heard of or used a sugar scrub before, and just wasn’t sure about the usage. I was almost tempted not to ever use it, but then I finally remembered I had it and gave it a try. Are you kidding me? Where have I been all of my life? I never realized how totally stuck in my box I’ve been to where I never had a clue that something so wonderful existed. I’ve spent my entire adult life suffering from scaling skin each winter and buying non-penetrating lotion after lotion to try to make my skin soft again while the whole time the remedy was so near at hand. Ridiculous!
So now my bottle is getting close to being empty and I decided to go the website of the company that makes the scrub to buy a new bottle and I have to tell you I was shocked at their price. Remember, it’s sugar based. There was just no way I was going to pay $32.00 for a bottle of sugar and some oil. I have a thrift shop, remember? So I continued looking for other sources and found several sites with directions on how to make the scrub. Hallelujah! It is so easy to make and once again I had to wonder what rock I crawled out from under. I mean who knew?
Another important fact I learned is that sugar cane produces glycolic acid, one of the natural alpha hydroxy acids that exfoliates the skin. Again, who knew?
Below are a couple of recipes to make your own sugar scrub. Trust me, you won’t be sorry.
Sugar Scrub #1
This super-simple formula has been softening and nourishing skin for centuries.
It only calls for two ingredients, and the results will gently exfoliate dead skin cells, improve skin clarity and softness, and stimulate your glandular system.
1/2 cup sugar
Enough cold-pressed oil (olive, wheat germ, peanut, corn, or sunflower) to dampen the mixture. You may also add a drop of your favorite essential oil. Check to see if your essential oils must be diluted before touching your skin.
Gently massage this exfoliating scrub all over your body and face* before you shower with a light soaping and rinse. Repeat once or twice a month.
*I’ve used the scrub I have on my face, but if you have extremely sensitive skin you may want to skip this part.
The next scrub uses more ingredients, but only if you want to add the other items.
50 Percent white cane sugar
50 percent vegetable glycerin to moisten the sugar. (Basically, this means olive oil, avocado oil or something similar.)
Small amounts of aloe vera gel, if desired
1 or 2 drops of essential oil if desired. Try combining orange and lavender
Enough ground hibiscus powder for a pink color if desired.
Combine the ingredients in a bowl, scoop some of the scrub onto your hand and massage gently onto your skin for a minute (The scrub will actually tighten on your skin like a masque) Leave on for 3 to 4 minutes before rinsing.
Warning: Once you use this scrub, you’ll never stop!
Here is a variation of the sugar scrub I thought was worth adding to the mix.
Too many bananas in the fruit bowl? Skip the banana bread and feed your skin instead with this luxuriant yet simple homemade banana body sugar scrub.
Bananas are a natural for body care. Their creamy pulp is luscious and soothing and works well as a carrier for other ingredients. Banana is nourishing and moisturizing and can be used for gentle exfoliation and skin-tightening.
In this simple formula, bananas and sugar are combined for a wonderfully aromatic and gently exfoliating body scrub.
1 ripe banana
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
¼ teaspoon pure vanilla extract or your favorite essential oil (optional)
Mash ingredients together with a fork into a chunky paste. Do not over mix or it will become too watery. If you want a banana scrub for your face, reserve some of the banana and mash it separately without sugar.
In the shower, slather the sugar mixture over your body avoiding the shower flow if possible and gently massage over your body. For your face, gently massage plain banana, avoiding the eye area. Rinse off with warm water.
How many times have bananas gone bad, and you end up throwing them out? Countless times for me and so now I have alternative usage to making banana cake or whatever. Something I rarely do, by the way.
I hope you find this information useful and that you give one of the recipes a try. I know I will.
What do you think? Did we ‘Redefine Thrift Stores’ with this posting?
While looking through some of the decorating sites found on the web, one element of current home decor trends was clearly predominate; the year 2016 is all about color! Bright colors at that! I saw Hot Pinks, pale pinks, yellows, turquoise, and purple to just name a few. Although, none of these colors made me stop and want to write about them. Until I came across the following photo from House Beautiful. I stopped dead in my tracks. I have always loved the delft blue. I really prefer it in smaller doses though so I think there’s a bit too much of a good thing in the photo at left. In my opinion, the blue and white together are so striking that you need only had a touch here and there for an eye-catching look. One great and inexpensive accent would be to add a Royal Copenhagen Christmas plate, or a Bing & Grondahl, Mother’s Day plate, as shown here. You can hang a plate or two on the wall or place on a couple of them on a plate stand and add to other items on a side table or buffet. Since yellow is one of the new 2016 colors, you’ll find that the royal blue looks fantastic with bright yellow!
I found another photo with blue and white accents, but this homemaker added a pale aqua to the mix, which in my opinion, is so gorgeous. It made me stop and think that we should at the least try it and if it works, just go for it!
Which brings me to the following decorating ideas. Mixing antiques with ‘now’ decor isn’t anything new and I think most of us have always added something from grandma’s house to one or more of our rooms. I’m not so sure I would have thought to throw in these next few items, yet they’re so, so cutely placed!

Easter DIY With Recyclables-With Easter quickly approaching and the weather not providing too many shopper friendly options, I thought this make-it-yourself-gift-box would be fun to make.
This unique Easter gift box is super easy to make! A clear plastic food container is simply painted pink, blue, or yellow and topped with colorful funny-paper posies and a bow.
Easter Gift Box Directions
Recycled items: small plastic food container and color comics from a newspaper.
You will also need- 7/8 yd of 7/8″ wide ribbon, desired color chalk paint or any spray paint, floral wire, wire cutters, green floral tape, tracing paper, and a low-temperature hot glue gun and glue sticks.
Paint the container
Making the roses. (Make two following the directions) Trace petal pattern below, onto tracing paper; cut out. Use pattern to cut 6 petals from comics. Wrap top edges of each petal around a pencil to curl. (Fig. 1.)
For rose center, cut a 3″ x 13″ strip from comics. Fold 1 end of strip 1/4″ to 1 side (wrong side). Matching wrong sides, fold strip in half lengthwise. (long folded edge is top of strip). Beginning with unfolded end, roll about one+quater of strip tightly; glue to secure. Roll remainder of strip loosely, folding small uneven pleats in bottom edge and spot gluing bottom edge to secure.
With top edges curling outward, wrap bottom of 1 petal around bottom of rose center; glue to secure. Wrap a second petal around rose center opposite first petal; glue to secure. Overlapping petals, repeat to glue remaining petals around rose center.
For stem on each rose, glue 1 end of a 2″ length of floral wire into bottom of rose. Wrap bottom of rose and wire with floral tape, covering wire completely.
Follow Making a Multi-Loop Bow (Fig. 2) to make a double-loop bow from ribbon, below.
Arrange roses and bow on box as desired; glue in place.
Making a Multi-Loop Bow
A layered bow is two (or many) bows layered on top of each other and held together with the wires from the topmost bow. The wires on the other bows are cut close and the top bow has a center loop. The bottom bow is the largest and has the longest tails.
Pliers (for tightening wires on the heavy material.)
1. Measure the length of ribbon for the first tail. Hold the ribbon with your thumb and forefinger.
2. With the right side of the ribbon facing out, make a loop one side. (8″ of ribbon makes a 4″ loop)
3. Make a full twist of the ribbon so the right side of the ribbon is still facing out and make a loop toward the other side.
4. Continue alternating loops right and left, fully twisting the ribbon as you go, until you have made the required number of loops on each side. Put florist wire around the center and twist it tightly at the back of the bow. The wire should be tight enough so the loops move independently and can be adjusted to make a full, fluffy bow.
Boo! Halloween. You know it’s going to sneak up on us if we don’t start planning for it now. This year Halloween falls on a Saturday, which is good for late night parties. Not so good if you have to work and need to put together your haunted houses to scare all the kids in the neighborhood! Or to get everyone in their costumes.
This year we do not have much in the way of costumes or decorations on our site. There might be a couple costumes left, and of course you can check out what we have in the way of vintage clothing if you want to go retro. This is exactly what happens when you wait until the last minute to start planning. We didn’t plan for Halloween and we have nothing. Don’t let this happen to you.
I’m sharing a recipe this time. Hope you like it!
Chocolate-Peanut Butter Coated Apples Ingredients
•10 to 12 wooden Popsicle sticks
•10 to 12 medium apples, stems removed
•1-2/3 cups (10-oz. pkg.) REESE’S Peanut Butter Chips
1/2 cup vegetable oil
•2/3 cup powdered sugar
•2/3 cup HERSHEY’S Cocoa
•MOUNDS Sweetened Coconut Flakes or chopped REESE’S Peanut Butter Chips (optional) Directions
1. Insert wooden stick into each washed and dried apple. Cover tray with wax paper.
2. Stir together peanut butter chips and oil in medium microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at MEDIUM (50%) 1-1/2 minutes or until chips are softened. Stir until melted. If necessary, microwave at MEDIUM an additional 15 seconds at a time, stirring after each heating, just until chips are melted when stirred.
3.Stir together powdered sugar and cocoa; gradually add to melted chip mixture, stirring until smooth. Microwave at HIGH 1 minute or until very warm.
4. Dip apples in mixture; twirl to remove excess coating. (If coating becomes too thick, return to microwave for a few seconds or add additional oil 1 teaspoon at a time.) Roll lower half of coated apple in coconut or chopped chips, if desired. Allow to cool on prepared tray. Refrigerate, if desired. 10 to 12 apples.
The first one is primarily for our West Coast friends having to endure years of no rain to speak of, but clearly can be used for anyone wanting to conserve water. Of course it may take people on the West Coast a couple of years to fill the barrel.
Unfortunately, instructions are not included. I’m sure though any man that’s handy around the house could figure it out in a minute.
The next idea also deals with the great outdoors and uses drought resistant plants to provide an awesome look for your fountain. We happen to have a fountain like this one and rarely do we fill it with water anymore, so this is a great way for it to be useful.
I think this interior décor item is interesting if for no other reason than what it’s made of and the amount of work that went into it’s creation. To that point; I bet you would never guess that the leaves are made from toilet paper rolls! Each leaf is then sewn on the machine to give it the center vein. They’re spray painted silver or whatever color you would like, then very painstakingly attached with a glue gun to willow branches that were also spray painted silver. The effect is awesome, yet clearly it does involve a lot of work. A link to the site with more detailed instructions is attached to the photo and where you’ll also find more projects!
How many times have you seen pallets either laying around by industrial trash receptacles or for sale by someone for next to nothing? When they get their hands on one, most people either make a bookcase, use them to display their collectibles or some other indoor, creative decorative item. Well here is someone who thought outside the box to create this walkway and I love it!
